The joy of native plants, herbs and roses in the garden will be featured in a “Backyard Gardening:
Going Wild in the Garden” symposium scheduled for March 28 by the Kerr Lake Extension Master
Gardener Volunteers, serving primarily Vance, Warren and Granville counties.
John Wrenn, owner of J&B Herb and Plant Farm, will be the keynote speaker during lunch preceding
an optional Herb in a Container Workshop. Mr. Wrenn and J&B Herb and Plant Farm were featured on
PBS in an October, 2014 episode of Flavor, NC.
Beginning with an 8:30 am registration and coffee at the Vance County Regional Farmers Market, 210
Southpark Drive, Henderson. The symposium schedule includes four diverse topics and speakers.
All presentations will be followed by a Q&A opportunity for the audience:
9:15: “Attracting Wildlife with Native Plants”: Chris Moorman, NCSU Dept. of Forestry
10:15: “Growing Miniature and Shrub Roses”: David Pike, Witherspoon Rose Culture
11:15: “Native Plants-Fight Plant for the Garden”: Lauri Lawson, Niche Gardens
12 noon: Lunch and “Herbs in the Landscape”: John Wrenn, keynote speaker
