Davidson County Extension Master Gardeners’ Conference 2017
Davidson County Master Gardeners will hold their 6th annual Gardeners’ Conference on February 2, 2017 with a snow date of February 9.
The conference will be held at Center Methodist Church of Welcome (near Lexington) from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The two main speakers are Allan Armitage and Carol Reese. Armitage is a well-known writer and speaker who lectures throughout the United States and Canada. He has worked with greenhouse crops and landscape plants in both the North and South. His topic is “Stories from the Garden”. Carol Reese is the ornamental horticulture specialist for the University of Tennessee. She is the gardening columnist for the Jackson Sun and a contributor to several gardening magazines. Her topic will be “Sex in the Garden”, a look at the anatomy of plants and the creatures that interact with them. Although filled with humor Reese’s talk will give insight into interactions in the garden.
Other sessions offered include “The Fascinating World of Ferns” by Lisa Gould, “Adapting Our Gardening Practices as We Age” with JoAnn Yates, “Wildlife Damage Control in Gardens” with Rupert Medford, “Observations of a Butterfly Gardener” by Loretta Lutman, and “Vegetable Gardening the Way Nature Likes It” with Mary Jac Brennan.
Registration begins on December 1. Cost is $35 and includes the meal. In addition to the sessions, vendors will be available for shopping. Forms can be picked up at the Davidson County Extension Office , 301 East Center Street in Lexington
